I am a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, advised by Bob Batterman and Mark Wilson. For the 2024-25 academic year, I will be the Ahmanson Postdoctoral Instructor in Philosophy of Science at the California Institute of Technology. From August 2025, I will be an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at North Carolina State University.
Before arriving in Pittsburgh in 2018, I completed a BSci (Hons) in Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Sydney, where I worked with David Macarthur. Way before that, I completed a BA (Hons) in Ancient History and Modern Languages, also at the University of Sydney.
I work primarily in the philosophy of science, though I am also interested in the philosophy of language. I'm generally interested in questions to do with models and explanation, how applied mathematics works, the role that laws play in scientific inquiry, multiscalar modelling strategies of various kinds, and conceptual engineering.
Outside of philosophy, I like learning languages, writing short stories, and playing chess. Before I moved to Pittsburgh I played and coached cricket for the mighty North Sydney Bears.
